Description of research
This project focuses on quantitative characterization of fundamental tradeoffs between sensing and communication in emerging WLAN standards in multi-link multi-band scenario. The research will explore the idea of achieving integrated sensing and communication in distributed cooperative multiple access points scenarios compliant with (or by enhancing) currently developed IEEE 802.11 standards in different indoor environments such as offices, campuses and industrial halls. The research also aims to explore how communication signals can assist sensing for environmental awareness and localization while sensing can assist communication with beam management and CSI acquisition.
Short bio of DC
Kapel is a researcher in wireless communications and currently a doctoral candidate at the International Hellenic University, where he focuses on exploring the theoretical limits of integrated sensing and communication for emerging wireless local area network standards incorporating multiple bands, multiple links, and multiple access points. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, and a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering with a focus on Wireless Technologies from Skoltech.
His research has primarily centered on secure localization, with his master’s thesis conducted in collaboration with the CISPA Helmholtz Centre for Information Security in Germany, where he studied the security analysis of space–time block codes for ranging applications. Kapel is passionate about information theory, signal processing, and emerging communication technologies. He aims to apply concepts from information theory together with signal processing and optimization theory to investigate fundamental performance limits and advance the design of next-generation wireless systems.
