Remote sensing and interference identification in NTN 5G signals

Hosted by GMV Aerospace and Defence S.A. and enrolled in the Doctoral Program at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

Contract Duration: 36 months

PhD Title: Remote sensing and interference identification in NTN 5G signals

Description

This research aims to leverage 5G signals in Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) to achieve two key objectives: sensing user terminals and identifying and localising interference devices within the network. Position estimation will be performed both at the ground station and onboard the satellite, necessitating the development of low-complexity algorithms suitable for these environments. Given the challenges inherent to satellite communications, the study will focus on delay-tolerant and robust solutions to ensure reliability across various applications. The expected outcomes include three key proposals to enhance terminal sensing at both the ground station and satellite using uplink and downlink signals. Anticipated results involve the development of novel machine learning-based algorithms for position estimation and interference cancellation, along with joint interference sensing solutions. A proof-of-concept (PoC) or demonstrator will also be implemented, with a particular emphasis on solutions based on DVB-S signals.
